Our second day in HCM focused on the Vietnam War.
Before breakfast, the girls had a little iPad time!
I wish I would have done more research on the Vietnam War before we went.
The War Remnants Museum had many photographs with captions, but I didn't really have much time to read them while we were there. The girls weren't too excited about being in a museum, and there was one in particular that was in a mood. I had to sit in the hall with her for a bit!
On the way to our next destination, we stopped for lunch on the river.
Through our tour we had a set menu. I am so glad we did because I probably wouldn't have ordered some of the items on my own. They were all delicious and we all left very full!!!
Our final stop before the airport was the Cu Chi network of underground tunnels. Over 25 years, beginning in the 1940s while at war with France more than 250 km of underground tunnels were constructed. They held living areas, weapon factories, command centers, field hospitals and kitchens.
The openings were small........
.....and were camouflaged.
An example of a trap set.......
A fresh air hole built into a termite mound.
Shoes made out of old tires.
The guide showed us how they could be worn backwards so the footprints would be deceiving.
At the end of the tour, we were able to crawl through a section of the tunnel. We choose only to do 25 meters and it was enough for me. It was a very creepy feeling to be underground. After we got out, the guide told us that they tunnel had been made 40% bigger for visitors. I had a hard enough time getting through at the current size.
After a busy day of sight seeing, our flight was delayed.
In order to keep everyone happy, we made a stop at the spa in the airport.
Life is Good when you have fun and educational experiences on vacation.
