The girls had a 4 day weekend for Deepavali, but we decided to make it a 5 day weekend and took off for Beijing, China on Thursday night. Our 7:00pm flight got us to Beijing about 1:15 am and we were to the hotel about 2:30am! We were ready in our long sleeves for breakfast by 9:15.
At breakfast we were greeted with a surprise....an early, first snow of the year!
Our tour guide met us at 10:00am and we were off to see the sights of Beijing!
First up was Tianamen Square
It was busy, wet and cold!
We were able to take a lot of family photos on this trip. Our tour guide, Marc, was very eager to take pictures of us. However, in each one for the entire trip Whitney either has a funny face, eyes not looking or having hat/hood issues!
Right across the street was the entrance to the Forbidden City.
Here's what Wikipedia has to say about the Forbidden City.
The Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming dynasty to the end of the Qing dynasty—the years 1420 to 1912. It is located in the centre of Beijing, China, and now houses the Palace Museum. It served as the home of emperors and their households as well as the ceremonial and political centre of Chinese government for almost 500 years.
Built in 1406 to 1420, the complex consists of 980 buildings and covers 72 ha (180 acres). The palace complex exemplifies traditional Chinese palatial architecture, and has influenced cultural and architectural developments in East Asia and elsewhere. The Forbidden City was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987,and is listed by UNESCO as the largest collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world.
The girls loved finding the guardian lions at all of our stops. Kaylee especially loved the female lion since she had a cub under her paw to represent nurture. The male lion would have a ball under his paw to show power.
And this is were Whitney began her meltdown.........
Still not happy in the garden, so it was time to end for the day...........
After warm baths and Hot Cup, everyone was happy again!
We stayed at the Grand Hyatt and they had a great indoor pool. It was a great end to a busy day. The pool area had waterfalls, fountains, hot tubs and animal sounds playing on the speakers to make it feel like a jungle.
We decided we need a few more winter clothes items for the next day so we stopped at Starbucks to refuel before heading to the mall.
Whit didn't make it out of the coffee shop before falling asleep.
After getting a few sweaters, scraves, long socks and better shoes we ended the day with dinner at DTF!!!
We finished the night with a live Kung Fu show!
Life is Good with SNOW when visiting a new country.
