The girls have Monday and Tuesday off of school for the Chinese New Year so we decided to take a little trip for 2 nights. We went to Port Dickson on the west coast about an hour and a half from our house. We stayed at the Golden Palm Tree Resort and Spa.
We had a friend come along with us....Flat Stanely was sent to us by our cousin, Ben, in Denver.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa above the water.
The whole resort was on stilts with the pool and a few restaurants in the middle.
We only had one casualty in the water the whole time. Whitney threw her paci in one morning. Had she been a bit older we would have said she was done with them, but she's not quite ready to part with all of them.
The girls and Stanley all got their names written in Chinese.
We enjoyed the pool.....
The girls made some lanterns.
Year of the Snake cake
We went down to the beach and Whitney wasn't too sure about the sand:
Everyday for lunch and dinner, the girls "made" their own pasta....sometimes they went back more than once...or twice!
We had a front row seat at the show the first night.......
.....and got brought on stage to dance!
We wanted to show Flat Stanely the inside of a Dragon Fruit.....He thought it was pretty yummy!!!
Flat Stanley also liked the Lion Dance....He was impressed how the lion jumped so fast, but thought the drums were pretty loud.
We did the pool all day again, and I even got a nap in with Whitney and Macy!
Before dinner, we headed to the beach for a bit. The beach wasn't soft and white and the water wasn't crystal blue....you have to go to other parts of Malaysia for that. However, it was better than any beach we ever found on the coast of Indiana!!!!! ;)
Still not too sure about the sand, but playing with an empty water bottle made it a little better.
The girls got to dance on stage again the next night too.
An added bonus to the night was a Dragon Dance
It was a fun weekend and we were able to learn a lot about the Chinese culture. On the way home, Kaylee asked why Malaysia does a lot for the Chinese New Year if it isn't China. The three main groups of people in Malaysia are Malays, Chinese(35%) and Indian(10%). Since Malaysia has so many different groups of people, there are many different religions practiced here including Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu.
Life is Good when you have a fun weekend away!
