Asian Adventure

Our secret is out.........We are headed on an Asian Adventure!!!!  Justin has accepted a global position with his company, Elanco Animal Health.

This has been in the works for a few months.  We have thought about it a lot and think it will be a great opportunity for our family.

Here's a run down on how things have happened:

First, we were asked if going abroad was something we would be interested in.....

Then, in September we were told it would probably be Asia..........Not really what I pictured in my head when thinking about living outside the US, but still something we were interested in.

Then, in early October we were told the position would be based out of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.......
After looking up where Malaysia was, we were still interested.
We talked with our friends, Brett and Cathy Showalter, who recently returned from Beijing and they were very helpful.  They shared tips for making life as an expat easier and had very positive things to say about living outside of the US.

Over Fall Break, Justin and I went and visited Malaysia.  We checked out schools and housing....I will do a post on this "Look See" trip soon.  Obviously, we decided this was something our family would like to do since we are moving there shortly!!!!!
Here are the answers to a few questions I have been asked:
How long?  2-4 years
Do you have to do this?  No.......we were given an opportunity and decided take it
Do I want to do this?
YES, why would you not want to try a new experience--it will be hard, it will be different, but it is a unique opportunity for our family.
Will we have a maid?
Yes, but not living with us, and I hope she loves to do laundry and empty the dishwasher!!!!
Will you have a driver?
No, and that is my one real stresser--things won't be as convenient to get to as they are here.  There is a lot of traffic and A TON of motorcycles.
Will you sell your house?
Yes, so if you know someone who is looking send them our way!!!

Life is Good when you take risks and try new things!

  1. Thanks for the shout out, Chesnuts! You CAN do this and it will be great. Not always easy, but the good will outweigh the challenges. We can't wait to follow along and hear about the sights, sounds and smells of your Asian Adventure. ;) Our only wish is that we were expats on the same continent at the same time. Maybe we'll meet you in Thailand or another exotic locale next Christmas....Godspeed as you start your journey.

  2. Well, geez, you'll be so much closer to all those other countries, maybe you'll have an opportunity to take a vacation to some of them too (like Australia or Japan).
